I appreciate the stats and the info related to the mercury content. I was particularly struck by how much would be saved if every house only changed one bulb. Here in Jackson ANYONE can pay $25 to Lower Valley Energy to have every single inside bulb replaced with a CFL (I don't think that includes bulbs that can be dimmed, but it is still a fabulous deal). Obviously, everyone should retrofit, and all the new houses coming up should just start with CFLs, right? Unfortunately, no. A friend just moved into his brand new house, and one of the bills he received was from his electrician who apparently "bought the highest wattage, most expensive incandescent bulbs he could find for every single fixture." There are a lot of fixtures in a 3000sf house, so I am giving my friend $25 for an early Christmas present. Chris – thank you for writing this!!!
